Leveraging the latest technology in the iPhone, MotionX-GPS is the perfect companion for skiers. A few examples of how people are using MotionX-GPS on the slopes:
Run the Track Recorder in the background to record your tracks and see total distance covered.
View current altitude, gradient, ascent and descent information.
Follow a previously recorded track (one of your own, or imported from a friend).
Capture your max speed. How fast can you go?
Visualize your track on the Maps page to see where you have skied and which runs you’ve missed.
Mark your current position and send it to a friend to meet up for lunch. They can quickly import your waypoint, pinpoint your location, and navigate directly to you using MotionX-GPS.
Post tracks and photos to Facebook so all of your friends can see where you skied.
Maintain a log of all your favorite runs and fastest tracks.
Create photo waypoints to mark favorite spots or hazards to avoid.
Share your tracks via email — for your own records or to challenge your friends.
Listen to your iPod or streaming music (e.g. Pandora, AOL, etc.) while recording tracks.

Jörgen has been training his 1 year old husky, Wahya, using a technique called skijording. (The dog pulls you on cross country skis) He tracks each training run with MotionX-GPS. The white husky is named Vintervarg. Both dogs are pure bred Siberian Huskies.
This is his latest training run with Wahya:
“The MotionX is a fantastic tool both for documenting the training and giving me access to data that tells me how far we’ve run, and the speed (max and average).
During the summertime I use the MotionX to track the different hikes that we go on, both for myself, and to share with others that share our interest for hiking and camping out.
I love the fact that you can share the data using google maps and that you can incorporate photos taken during the tracking.
I will highly recommend this app for everybody that enjoys any outdoor activities or sports, both to document the trails you go or to keep track of your progress during training.” –Jörgen Honerud, Norway
Lance has been using MotionX-GPS to record tracks skiing and mountain biking. Then he uses GPS Visualizer to see the elevation profile of his track. It is simple, just email your track from within MotionX-GPS with the one touch “Share Track Now” button and the KML file gets attached to the email. Then upload your file to GPS Visualizer to see the elevation profile.
Lance also said, “I also have an upcoming epic mountain bike race. I use profiles from my training rides to try and match the course profile for training purposes. I actually never thought I would consider mounting the iPhone to my handlebars until your software came out.”
Here is the elevation profile of his latest track while skiing.
